Bamboo products are considered environmentally friendly because bamboo is grown without the use of herbicides and pesticides and other chemical harmful substances such as mineral fertilizers. It does not deplete the fertile layer of the earth, although it grows very quickly, some varieties can grow up to six meters in height in a year. Bamboo chopsticks, wallpaper, dishes, furniture were known for a long time and were quite popular. But they began to produce textiles from bamboo quite recently since 2000. Since then, the production technology has undergone only some changes, mostly remaining the same.

Bamboo fiber and fabric - production technology

There are two production technologies that determine the cost of products from this type of raw material.

Production steps of bamboo fabric and fiber

Expensive, but environmentally friendly, since no harmful chemicals and decomposers are used in the process. With this method, the upper part of the bamboo stands out, like a skin, which is subsequently dried not in the open sun to maintain elasticity. Subsequently, after drying, the bamboo raw material is combed out by hand, using a technology similar to the technology of combing out flax. After this operation, the obtained long grayish-brown fibers are subjected to boiling and steam treatment, as a result of which the fiber acquires a snow-white color, becomes extremely soft and very pleasant to the touch. This bamboo fiber is further used as a filler when sewing blankets, pillows, mattress covers of the highest quality and environmental friendliness. With this method of manufacturing, bamboo fiber and bamboo fabric retains the greatest amount of nutrients that are contained in bamboo.

Bamboo fiber and fabric production stages

2. The technology, which is less costly in financial and labor costs, consists in crushing the core of dry bamboo, followed by transformation under the force of chemical reagents into a homogeneous viscose mass. Further passed through special drums, which form a tough pulp. Then it is subjected to the same boiling and steam treatment - then the manufacturing process repeats the first method, with the only clarification that useful substances that are afraid of the effects of acids and solvents, practically in the composition of the bamboo fiber and, accordingly, the bamboo fabric does not remain. However, the physical properties of the material are retained.
