   Bamboo blankets have recently come into everyday use. In this regard, many questions arise about the manufacturing technology, as well as: How to choose a high-quality bamboo blanket?

What is a bamboo blanket?

    A bamboo blanket is a blanket filled with bamboo fiber. Also, a cover can be made of bamboo, in which case it is safe to say that in front of you is a 100% bamboo blanket. Bamboo threads can be intertwined in various ways and, depending on this, the cover can be made of satin, calico, ranfors, teak, but in the composition of the fabric, 100% bamboo must be indicated.

How are bamboo blankets made?

    Bamboo fiber, which is used as filler for the duvet of the same name, is made in two main ways:

The first method is laborious, long-term, and also expensive, since it is made almost entirely by hand. Used cut bamboo plants of a certain age category, in which the core will come off well, without the use of chemicals. Further, by the method of destroying the surface shell, the core is extracted, which is a coarse fiber. Then it is knocked out, that is, the structure turns into long threads, but rather coarse. The next stage, these threads are hung out to dry in the open sun, under the influence of the rays of which, as well as under the influence of precipitation and dew, they soften in a natural way. Subsequently, processing takes place at textile enterprises, when the softened bamboo fibers collected in huge bales are sorted, bleached and, under the influence of organic substances, are even more exfoliated. The end result is unusually soft fibers thinner than a human hair, ready to turn into filler or threads for bamboo fabric. Marking of bamboo blankets made from such bamboo fiber: eco bamboo, green bamboo fiber, organic bamboo.

The second method is less costly, and also less waste-free, because the whole bamboo plant is used as raw material. And it turns into a structure, necessary for the textile industry, by the cellulose method. This means that bamboo undergoes total grinding, then under the influence of acids, in huge containers this mass is converted into a homogeneous substance of gray-brown color. Further, after several cleaning procedures, the so-called filtering process takes place. This is when the pulp from the bamboo is passed through the smallest holes, thus forming fibers. This type of production is cheaper, environmentally unfriendly, as it generates a lot of waste. Bamboo filler made in this way will be labeled: bamboo pulp or imported bamboo pulp blankets. You can find more details about the production technology in the article What is bamboo fabric and fiber.

Bamboo blanket warm or not

   This characteristic depends on the amount of bamboo filler. Bamboo in the form of insulation, has good thermal insulation properties, comparable to cotton. But if cotton tends to lose its shape and stray over time. But this does not happen with bamboo fiber, since it has a long-fiber structure, therefore it is evenly distributed over the space of the blanket cover and is securely held inside using curly quilting, the shape of which is calculated using a computer program.

If the amount of bamboo filler is 100-200 g / m2, then the blanket has a low heat-saving ability and is intended for use in spring and summer;

Bamboo filler in the amount of 200-300g / m2, a blanket of medium heat and is suitable for the off-season, as well as for heated living quarters with a temperature of at least 19 degrees;

A blanket with a density of 300-500 grams per square meter is warm enough to hide in the winter, as well as in the demi-season period for people who freeze with an average density of a demi-season blanket;
