Jacquard fabric is a very beautiful kind of weaving of threads. Jacquard fabrics, since their first production in 1808, have been used by kings, the nobility, and the upper class. Since the fabric was very expensive and was affordable only to the king's entourage, and even now natural jacquard material is highly valued and there is a reason. Incredibly beautiful and multifaceted, it looks very beautiful both in home textiles and in clothes. It does not lose its relevance both in modern clothing and interiors and in the classic version.

The history of jacquard fabric

All the most significant discoveries of mankind occur thanks to enthusiasts who are ready to spend years of their lives to make their dreams come true. From the ideas of the hereditary weaver of the Frenchman Joseph Marie Jacquard, to the creation of a working machine that produced fabric in a special way, not many years have passed. All this time passed in trials and failures, but they only tempered Jaccard's character, which was later appreciated by Napoleon Buonoparte himself, who introduced a kind of one of the first licenses. To thank for such an outstanding discovery, all the craftsmen who wanted to make jacquard material had to pay the inventor 50 francs, which was not a small amount of money at that time. And the loom was named after its inventor, jacquard, as well as the type of fabric itself and the weaving of the fabric itself.

Jacquard material production methods

Thanks to industrialization and the reduction in the cost of production processes, today the jacquard material has become much more affordable. The looms have become more productive, from other materials, but the very principle of jacquard weaving of threads remained the same, as well as the principle of operation of the jacquard loom.

Today there are two types of weaving of threads called jacquard:

Weaving is simple, it is characterized by one system of weft and warp threads, which can be interwoven with each other in three different ways - simple, combined and arbitrary. Satin jacquard is an example of a fabric produced using a simple weave technique. This type of fabric, which is used for sewing home textiles, is characterized by strong twisting of the threads to obtain a very smooth and shiny surface.

The complex weaving of jacquard fabrics consists of several systems of warp and weft threads. As a result of this weaving, multi-layered, very beautiful multi-colored materials are obtained. In some cases, more than 150 threads of various shades and colors are simultaneously used to obtain designer fabrics. Double-sided jacquard is used for sewing various clothes; two-layer look - this is a tapestry jacquard in a classic look; pile or terry jacquard, used, for the most part, when upholstering furniture, in the manufacture of carpets and towels.

Methods for dyeing jacquard fabric

The first type consists in dyeing the finished fabric using various printing methods. This type is the least energy and labor intensive, and therefore more affordable. The second method consists in the manufacture of material from threads already dyed in a special way, such a fabric is double-sided and denser than its counterpart from unpainted threads. It can be multi-colored, such as the tapestry variety and monochromatic.

The latest techniques of ombre, chameleon and highlights are applied to achieve the most incredible effects.

Jacquard fabric composition

The jacquard material was mainly made from natural silk, sometimes from a mixture of silk threads and wool. Today, jacquard can be produced both from natural threads: silk, cotton, linen, wool, viscose, from synthetic threads: polyester, polyamide, metal thread, lurex, spandex, lycra, elastane; blended yarns of natural and synthetic fibers can also be used.

Questions frequently asked by our customers:

Is jacquard cotton? Basically, cotton fiber is used in bedding sets, to give even greater wear resistance and shine to the fabric, some manufacturers add polyester fibers in an amount of no more than 20%.

Is jacquard knitwear? There are types of knitted fabric made using the jacquard technique, mainly used for sewing dresses and skirts.

Is jacquard a warm fabric? Jacquard weave is highly dense, and in some cases multi-layered, therefore it has a higher density and warmer than many fabrics with conventional weave types. But still, whether the fabric is warm is determined by its composition, so if wool, acrylic, polyester are indicated in the composition of the jacquard material, then such a fabric will really be warm.

Is jacquard a natural fabric? There are products made exclusively from natural cotton, these are usually elite-class bedding, and silk products also belong to it. Blended fabrics are usually used in garments to give the best quality. To determine the naturalness of the composition, you need to familiarize yourself with the label on the product or with the characteristics in the online store. If this information is not provided, then there is a large share of confidence that you have pure synthetics in front of you. This does not mean that the product is of poor quality, it is just that it is much cheaper than its natural counterparts in terms of cost.
