Satin is not the composition of the fabric, but a special structure of the weave of threads, the so-called 4: 1, there are four main purl threads per one face strongly twisted thread. This type of weaving of threads allows you to get a durable, beautiful fabric used for sewing bed linen, curtains, bedspreads, blanket covers and pillows. Cotton raw materials used for the production of yarns are long staple and thin. Further, the resulting threads are strongly twisted to obtain a shiny front surface. And the better the process of twisting the threads, the longer the original appearance of the product will remain.

What types of satin are there?

  •  To impart the necessary properties to the fabric, various impurities are introduced into its composition along with cotton fibers:
  • microsatin is made with the addition of polyester, which improves the durability of products, various dirt is easier to wash, such a fabric does not need to be ironed, it always looks perfect, but moisture absorption and thermal insulation deteriorate. Also, microsatin, depending on the amount of polyester fiber and its quality, may be coarser to the touch. It is mainly used for sewing bed linen, clothes, quilt covers, pillows, etc.
  • crepe-satin - fabric for sewing, mainly clothing, which uses artificial polyester fibers, processed like silk fibers.
  • satin-double is made with an admixture of viscose, it is used as a lining fabric.
  • satin satin with an admixture of natural silk fibers, looks elegant and does not lose its hygienic and strength characteristics. Bed linen, curtains, tablecloths, napkins, clothes are sewn from it.
  • satin-silk - this fabric combines the advantages of silk and cotton, because it is made from natural fibers of cotton and silk. The seamy side is cotton, and the front side is silk, thanks to which the fabric does not slip, very soft and pleasant to the touch with excellent hygienic characteristics. Due to its high cost, premium fabric is mainly used for sewing bed linen and home textiles.
  • natural cotton fabric, made from 100% cotton, is the most popular and widespread.

White and gray satin bedding

What is the best satin density for bedding?

The density of a fabric is the amount of material per unit area. It all depends on your preferences, the optimal density is from 125g / m2 to 135g / m2.

Let's see why. This density range meets the preferences of most buyers who want the fabric to be cool, absorb moisture well, not electrify, be durable, keep its shape well and not wrinkle too much. The higher the density, the higher the wear resistance, but the worse the air permeability. Therefore, thick satin bedding is advised to be used in winter, and with a low density in summer, thus guaranteeing the best hygienic characteristics.

  Types of satin density

  • Light with a value from 110 to 120g / m2.
  • Regular satin with a density of 85 to 130g / m2, is mercerized and surface embossed, due to which the fabric does not fade and is smooth to the touch.
  • Printed by dyeing each thread, the fabric is denser from 85 to 170g / m2.
  • The print density is the same as printed.
  • Jacquard type of weaving has a high density from 170 to 220g / m2.
  • Stripe satin starts from 140 to 220g / m2.
  • Mako-satin is the densest type of fabric with a density of 220g / m2.

Types of satin by the type of weaving of threads

Pink satin jacquard, brown stripe satin, purple satin luxury.

  • satin jacquard is a beautiful, but at the same time, wear-resistant fabric, due to its increased density. The pattern on the surface of the fabric is obtained by interweaving threads of different colors, has both the front and the wrong side. The threads are completely dyed, bed linen from this type of fabric does not fade and retains its original appearance for a long time.It has a fairly high cost, which pays off with a long service life.
  • stripe satin - less dense, but no less beautiful fabric, is a cheaper variety of satin jacquard. It has the same structure on both the seamy side and the front side, it is usually painted in bed colors, which is a sign of environmental friendliness, since bright paints require a more thorough process of painting and fixing the paint with reagents.
  • luxury satin, a fabric with shine and density, which is the optimal choice between appearance, durability and hygiene.

Types of satin by dyeing method:

  1. bleached - white solid color, often used when sewing bed linen for hotels and hospitals.
  2. plain dyed - each thread is dyed before weaving, so the color is uniform and very high quality in one color.
  3. printed one differs in a variety of colors and brightness of colors - the front side slightly differs in color from the wrong side, is used for the production of home textiles.
  4. printed - only the front part is painted, the seamy side remains almost unpainted.
  5. digital is the most beautiful, clear and realistic way of coloring.
  6. 3 D - drawings are applied digitally, but in a special way.
  7. fluorescent - a relatively new type, when applying the picture, safe paints are used that emit a pleasant glow in the dark.
