Man invariably wants to buy the best for his home. And bedding is no exception. Tactile sensations play an important role in determining the quality of bed linen. The spools bring a lot of trouble to the owners. Firstly, the appearance of bed linen suffers. And secondly, the pellets add discomfort at the moments of contact of the body with them.
Why do bed linen have pills?
Now we will find out which fabric is covered with pellets from bed linen. There are actually three reasons for the formation of pellets.
- The first is when cotton is used for the production of fabric for bed linen of poor quality, little combed out, not rejected and short-stapled. Such cotton eventually begins to release fluff, fluff. Fluffy bedding at first seems soft and pleasant, but over time, fluffy cotton fabric, from contact with the body and during washing, rolls and spools form. They are easy to peel off even with your fingers and do not hold tight. It is also possible to remove them with a special machine for spools.
- The second is a low-quality blended fabric for bed linen. Most often, low-quality polyester is added to cotton, which has a more rigid structure than soft cotton fiber. Polyester fibers pull out the particles of the cotton fluff, this process occurs constantly and over time, large pellets are obtained, not even pellets. They are difficult to tear off the bed linen, since it is quite difficult to tear out the polyester fibers and it is possible to pull the threads along with the spools and damage the bed linen. There is an option to get rid of the pellets using a special device.
- The third reason is the low-density bedding material. Slits form between the threads, which provoke constant friction between the threads. When soaked, cotton fibers swell three times, when dried, they decrease accordingly - this also provokes friction of the threads. As a result, the formation of pellets on bed linen is also possible. Materials containing more than 40% polyester and cotton fibers are especially susceptible to this.
Which bed linen does not pill?
On percale bed linen, spools never form. Since it undergoes a special treatment with a glue-starch natural solution, which glues the cotton fibers and does not allow them to fluff, and, accordingly, form pellets. Bed linen made of mercerized satin is not prone to pilling even with frequent washing.
High-quality cotton bed linen does not fluff. These fabrics include poplin, ranfors and calico. Poplin bedding, as well as coarse calico, made from high-quality cotton raw materials, will not spool even with intensive use.
Bedding made from synthetic fabrics, such as microfiber, will be devoid of pellets throughout its life. The polyester microfibers from which microfiber is made are so thin and so tightly woven together that it is impossible to stretch them or deform them to form pellets.
How to wash bed linen so that there are no spools?
In order to prevent the formation of pellets on the bed sets during washing, the drum must be filled no more than half. The second prerequisite is the separation of the bed by composition, it is strictly forbidden to wash natural bed sets with those that contain synthetic fibers in their composition.
