The most popular fabric for bed linen, home textiles and home clothing. Thanks to its excellent operational and hygienic characteristics, it has won the love of many buyers.
Coarse calico bedding meets all the requirements for this type of home textiles:
- does not cause allergies, as it is made from environmentally friendly raw materials - cotton fiber;
- does not accumulate static electricity;
- has sufficient hygroscopicity, i.e. the ability to absorb excess moisture;
- thanks to the structure of cotton threads, the fabric allows air to pass through in sufficient quantity - the body feels comfortable under the coarse calico bedding;
Calico is
The fabric, which according to the standard of Ukraine, can be produced only from 100% cotton raw materials without adding any impurities of any kind, by weaving threads on weaving machines using the usual linen method, or, as it is also called, cross-on-the-cross. When threads of equal thickness are evenly interwoven with each other, creating a dense and durable fabric. But there are imported fabrics that can be made with the addition of synthetic fibers, usually no more than 20%.
By composition, two types of fabric are distinguished:
- ordinary calico from natural 100% cotton fabric;
- coarse calico gold - fabric usually made in China or Pakistan with the addition of 20% synthetic fibers. This additive practically removes the properties of wrinkling from the fabric, and also increases the service life and quality of dyeing.
By the method of coloring and the degree of cleaning, coarse calico is subdivided:
- harsh or undyed natural fabric, quite coarse and tough, used for sewing workwear, upholstery, etc.
- bleached is a fabric that undergoes a degree of cleaning of raw materials and bleaching, suitable for sewing bed linen and other textiles.
- plain dyed also undergoes a degree of cleaning and bleaching, only afterwards it is painted in a single color, the scope of application is the same as that of bleached calico.
- printed - the most beautiful type of fabric, which differs in the way and types of applied patterns, in addition to the usual use, various clothes are additionally sewn.
What types of coarse calico are in terms of density?
- low: 80-90 g / m2 looks more like chintz, the gaps between the threads are visible to the naked eye, they sew short-lived bed linen, kitchen towels, napkins, tablecloths;
- medium or other common name Light: 90-110g / m2, the threads fit tightly enough and the distances between them are visible only if the fabric is brought to light, the fabric is quite pleasant to the touch, many people like the balance of wear resistance and softness;
- Comfort: 120g / m2 fabric is dense, keeps its shape well, tougher to the touch than Light;
- Standard: 130gr / m2 from the name itself it is clear that this is a kind of coarse calico standard in terms of strength and tactile qualities, as well as in appearance;
- high: 130-160g / m2 is now practically not used for sewing home textiles, because without digestion processing, such fabric is no longer very pleasant in contact with the body, especially for a long time. Digestion eliminates the lack of coarse calico rigidity while maintaining its strength, such coarse calico is comparable in price with ranforce.
The modern textile industry does not stand still and develops more and more new types of fabrics, for example, the coarse calico has a very unusual relative - the coarse calico reaper, which is produced by the hot stamping method, and the effect of local crunching does not go away over time, even after being washed numerous times. Such fabric is used for sewing bed linen, it is pleasant to the touch, even having a high density, which provides it with additional wear resistance.
